Waupaca event features music, poetry, art, comedy, drumming

Chick Night is back in person this year, slated for 7-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at Par4 Bistro.

Hosted by the Waupaca Community Arts Board, Chick Night celebrates women with music, poetry, art, comedy, drumming and a group sing-along.

A Galentine’s Day art project for audience members is also planned.

Appleton’s singer-songwriter Laura Bomber, headlines the evening with her broad musical palette, ranging from folk, indie pop, and bluegrass on piano and guitar.

She is joined by other musical performers, Kathy Hammond, Pamela Gusmer, Megan Nendza of Smitten Kitten, the duo Michelle Winter and Michele Koshollek, Allison Bartig, Chainsaw Barbie, and Marci Beaucoup of Baba Ghanooj.

“We are so thrilled to be able to bring our bi-annual Chick Night back as an in-person event this year,” WCAB President Marci Reynolds said.

“It’s so important for all of us to come together to celebrate women in the arts. It’s a great opportunity to rejoice in each other, laugh together and support each other,” she said.

In addition to musical performances, Keziah Love, founder of Healing Scars, will present a spoken-word performance rooted in the work her organization does with young girls.

More activities

The evening will also present a comedy skit by Barb Laedtke and Monica Reeve and spoken poetry by La Donna Larson.

Immersive audience activities include Tammie Jo Berg leading Positive Repercussions, a group sing-along, and making Galentine’s Day cards for the women in audience-members’ lives.

Admission is $20 at the door, and open to all genders.

“But we heartily encourage everyone to come to Par4 Bistro early for dinner, and then stay for the show,” Reynolds said.
