Strebe, Arleigh

Arleigh F. “Arch” Strebe, 84, passed away at his home on February 2, 2023.

He was born on January 7, 1939, Town of Farmington, Waupaca County, Wisconsin, to Clarence and Elsie (Oppor) Strebe. He was a 1956 graduate of Little Wolf High School, Manawa. Arleigh worked in construction and then enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served in Newfoundland and the United States. He then received an associate degree in electronics from DeVry University. He became a Journeyman Electrician with IBEW Local 577 (being a member for 55 years) and worked for various electrical contractors.

On September 4, 1965, he was united in marriage with Janet Kalbus. They built a home in Readfield where they lived with their children for over 30 years and later built a home near New London.
Arleigh enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, was a former member of the Medina Dale Readfield Lions Club, charter member of the Readfield Gun Club where he enjoyed trap shooting, golfing, making firewood, traveling to Alaska and the Bahamas, woodworking, and watching the deer and turkeys in his yard. He was a jack of all trades, being able to fix almost anything. He built a cross that was used for the Lenten season at Emanuel Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, Lynn (Shawn) Wegner, Holmen; son, Brad (Catherine De La Cerna) North Aurora, IL; two grandchildren Jacob and Hannah Wegner, Holmen. A sister, Jean Smith, brother Walter (Elizabeth) Strebe; sister-in-law, Nancy Strebe; brothers-in-law Dennis Zahn and Carl G. Kalbus, two neighbor children Paytyn and Parker Johnson, several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Elsie Strebe; his brothers Verlyn (Mary) Strebe and Gary Strebe; his sisters Loretta (Don) Budsberg and Norma Zahn; a brother-in-law, John Smith and his mother-in-law and father-in-law Carl J. and Edith Kalbus.

The visitation will take place on Thursday, February 23, 2023, from 4 to 7pm at Cline Hanson Funeral Home, New London and again from 9am until the time of the Christian service on Friday, February 24, at 11am at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London with Rev Mark Tiefel officiating. A private burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Readfield.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
