Nelson, Evelyn

Evelyn “Evie” (Jensen) Nelson, age 91, of Waupaca, WI, passed away peacefully under hospice care on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Park Vista in Waupaca.

She was born January 31, 1932 in Waupaca; daughter of Carl and Nona (Albert) Replogle. Evie grew up in King, WI with her family and graduated from Waupaca High School, being crowned Prom Queen her junior year. After high school, Evie married James “Bud” Jensen II. Their marriage ended in divorce, but in the years to follow they reunited and continued a close relationship with one another. Bud preceded Evie in death on April 23, 1999.

Evie loved her work through the years in insurance and legal work for the law office of Johnson, Hansen, & Shambeau. She had a love of life and a passion for golf where she won the club championship at the Waupaca Country Club. Evie was a smart, creative and independent woman who enjoyed a very social life with her many friends playing bridge. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, to not only her own family, but to many other neighborhood kids through the years. Evie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca and was active in a number of church groups, including sewing quilt tops for the Mission Workers. On January 3, 2004, she married Loyd Nelson in Waupaca and he preceded her in death on February 12, 2008. She will be dearly missed by all of her loving family and many friends.

Evie is survived by her two sons James “Jim” Jensen III of Iola and Jay Jensen of Madison; three grandchildren James “Jamie” Jensen IV of Minneapolis, MN, Francesca (Matt) Steffel of Bethel, MN, and Amanda (Jordan) Jensen of Denver, CO; six great-grandchildren Annabelle, Eloise, Karolena, Magnus, Marcel, and Therese; two sisters Reva Moen of Waupaca and Linda Ellingson of West Allis; two sisters-in-law Jacqualin “Jackie” Replogle of Waupaca and Janet Taber of Waupaca; a brother-in-law Frank (Leslie) Geer of Snohomish, WA; and also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Nona Replogle; her former husband Bud Jensen; her second husband Loyd Nelson; one brother Albert “Duffy” Replogle; and three brothers-in-law Layner Moen, Dennis Ellingson, and Jerry Taber.

A Memorial Service for Evie will be on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca. A visitation will be held on Monday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will take place at a later date at Lakeside Memorial Park in Waupaca. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Trinity Lutheran Church of Waupaca. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
