Movies coming back to Waupaca

The Rosa Theater is undergoing maintenance, painting and minor repairs. This month technicians will test and recalibrate equipment.

According to Scott Koran, president of Rogers Cinema, the theater will reopen sometime between late April and late June.

A microchip issue has held up the reopening this past year. Rogers Cinema received a shipment of projector intelligence boards that will be installed in the four projectors at the Rosa.

“The cinema industry is still in recovery mode. I think the biggest issue is the lack of films in the marketplace. This March is the first month where we have an abundance of product. It takes anywhere from one to three years to make a movie – while we had a lot of product over the summer of 2022, the number of releases dropped dramatically in the fall. Covid also pushed a lot of product to the streaming services and the major studios have recommitted to releasing films theatrically,” said Koran.

Show times are still uncertain. Koran plans to show films on the weekends at first and then gradually return to a normal weekly schedule.

As they get closer to opening Rosa will be hiring theater staff.
