Runs, wins add up for I-S girls

Softball team posts two wins

The Iola-Scandinavia softball team added to its Central Wisconsin Conference-East win total with a pair of wins over Wittenberg-Birnamwood and Shiocton.

The Thunderbirds returned home from Wittenberg May 4 after a 12-3 win over Wittenberg-Birnamwood and also handed Shiocton an 11-1 defeat May 2.

Iola-Scandinavia scored three runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth to break open a 1-1 game.

The T-Birds added two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Clara Koles had four hits, including a double, and drove in three runs, while Brooklyn Berrens and Maddie Much added three hits. Berrens had an RBI double in the third inning; Much had two doubles and drove in three runs; Marin Hoyord drove in four runs and Jaelyn Sivertson had two hits.

Much went the distance to earn the win, allowing 10 hits while striking out six batters.

Iola-Scandinavia 11, Shiocton 1 (5 inn.)

Sivertson hit a solo walk-off home run in the bottom of the fifth inning helped give the T-Birds a 10-run win over the Chiefs.

The T-Birds scored seven runs in the second inning and added three more in the third.

Sivertson and Berrens each had three hits. Besides the game-ending home run, Sivertson also had two doubles and drove in four runs; Berrens added a triple; and Myah Heschke had two hits.

Chloe Timdal started the scoring for the T-Birds, as her triple scored Hoyord in the second inning.

Much pitched all five innings for the win and gave up three hits.

The T-Birds will host Weyauwega-Fremont at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 11; will head to Marathon Saturday, May 13, for a nonconference doubleheader, with games scheduled for 10 a.m. and noon.

Iola-Scandinavia will then finish its regular season with a pair of nonconference games against Wautoma at home Tuesday, May 16; and at Almond-Bancroft Thursday, May 18. Both games will start at 4:30 p.m.
