Eckhart, David

David “Dave” J. Eckhart, age 55, of Rome, WI passed away, after a courageous four-year battle with ALS, on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.

Following Dave’s wishes there will be no services held.

Dave was born on October 8, 1967, in New London, WI to David L. and Karen J. (Hutchinson) Eckhart. When he was young his family moved around often, he graduated 8th grade in Ripon, WI, then moved to Adams County and graduated from Adams-Friendship High School in 1986. Dave then started a job at the Arkdale Post Office in July of 1986 and remained working there until needing to retire due to ALS in August of 2020. He married his wife Becky Virnig on May 16, 1992, in Adams, WI.

Dave loved spending time with his family and kids. He enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, water skiing with Shermalot Ski Team, downhill skiing, traveling with family, and deer hunting. Dave also enjoyed watching his cousin, Paul Thorpe, at the racetrack. He was proud to be a part of the Guiness Book of World Records for three record breakers of most barefoot skiers behind one boat. Dave never slowed down, he owned a lawn mowing business for a while, managed a boat storage business among numerous other projects that he was always busy with.

He is survived by his wife, Becky; children Jedidiah, Victoria; mom, Karen Eckhart, siblings; Debbie (Peter) Scavotto, Barbara (Joe) Flatt, Martin (Jennifer) Eckhart, Amanda (Brian) Sadler; mother-in-law, Kathy Regele; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary (Kevin) Derfus, Tom Virnig, Sue (Bill) Becker, Chuck Virnig, Bill (Joy) Virnig, Barb (Bob) Weber, Debbie (Joel) Zellner, Jenny (Jack) Mouriski, Mark (Christy) Virnig, Jon Virnig and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Great friends Bob Anderson and Pete Koehler.

He is preceded in death by his dad, David L. Eckhart; sister, Cindy Schwulst; grandparents; father-in-law, Roman Virnig and brother-in-law, David Virnig.

The family of Dave would like to thank his caregiver Linda Jones and the staff at Compassus Hospice.
