Anderson, Sarah “Sally” Head

Sarah “Sally” Head Anderson, age 94, died in her home in New London on September 1, 2023.

A 1949 graduate of Wittenberg University, where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Education and Music. Sally was an avid teacher and mentor. Her teaching career spanned 30 years, retiring from St. Rose Elementary School in Clintonville. Sally was also a coach for speech, debate and forensics, working with students at New London Senior High School. Sally met the love of her life, Ernest Anderson in Youngtown, OH. This led to happy matrimony for 65 years. Sally loved life and approached every day with a positive attitude. She was a firm believer in the ability of 4-H and its importance in youth development. That service was witnessed as she was a show secretary for the State 4-H Horse Expo for 30 years. She was a member of the State and Outagamie Horse Association for longer than 30 years. She also operated as an Outagamie County Fair Superintendent. Sarah was a judge for forensics and debate at both the state level and national levels. She was dedicated to her faith and served as a Lay Leader for United Methodist Church. Her love of music inspired others and she was the choir director at United Methodist Church, as well as, developing a bell choir for worship music. Perhaps one of her favorite passions was being a member of the Wolf River Theater Troupe. From her role in Nunsense, to one of the sisters in Arsenic and Old Lace, she loved them all. Sally also had many hobbies and interests. She was an avid reader and knitter. Her favorite hobby was cooking and baking new recipes she read. Sally wanted people to remember the following….”I loved them, had a good sense of humor, always tried to find the bright side, loved teaching and being on stage.”

Sally is survived by her husband, Ernie; children, Laura (Aaron) Sodemann, Gib (Kathy) Anderson and Margaret (Dean) Krenke; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, great-nephews and great-nieces.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Gibson and Margaret Vernon (Ryall) Head and brother and sister-in-law, Frank Gibson (Elizabeth) Head Jr.

The Memorial Service for Sally will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at United Methodist Church (709 W. Pine St.) in New London with Rev. Joyce Rich officiating. The visitation will take place at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Mosquito Hill Cemetery, Town of Liberty.

The family asks that donations be made to United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.
