Mlsna, Richard

Richard “Hank” Mlsna passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on April 30, 2024

at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home in Port Edwards, WI.

To honor Hank’s wishes, private graveside services will be held. Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home in Nekoosa is assisting the family.

Hank was born on June 25, 1938 to Henry and Anastasia Mlsna in Nekoosa, WI. He married Joan Amundson on June 28, 1958. They had four children together. His second marriage was to Kristie Hetzel and together they had one son.

Some may remember Hank as a top scoring, record holding basketball player for Nekoosa High School. Others may have known him as the guitar player in numerous bands and jam sessions. To many, he was “Big Hank”. Regardless of how you knew him, Hank was a larger than life figure and won’t easily be forgotten. Motorcycles and hunting were also passions of his.

Hank was a painting contractor. He spent many years painting side by side with his son Dan at Vulcan Chemicals (now Erco) in Port Edwards, WI. He also did a lot of painting in the Waupaca area.

Hank is survived by his children, Dan (Kay) Mlsna, Deb Christensen, Jodi (Doug) Boardman and Jon Mlsna; grandchildren, Jim (Kelsey) Christensen, Josh (Renee) Christensen, Stacie (Joel) Clark, Shaun Boardman and Anastasya Mlsna; sister, Sandy Hill; brothers-in-law Fred Nishiziki and Dave Webb; former wife Kristie Mlsna as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Hank was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Pat Nishiziki, Gloria Webb, Marilyn Boettcher; brothers-in-law Art Hill and Frank Boettcher; first wife Joan and their infant son James Mlsna.

The family would like to thank Edgewater Haven Nursing Home for their excellent care provided to Hank. The friendship and compassion shown to him will never be forgotten. Special thanks to Mickey Freeman. Dad was lucky to have such a good friend right across the hall.
