Amherst visited the Loyal/Greenwood Greyhounds for what many thought would be their toughest game so far this season.
The Greyhounds struck first with a 40-yard touchdown pass, but could not convert on a two-point conversion as they went up 6-0.
After a weather delay, the Falcons took the lead as running back Ayden Nerdahl scored from the goal line to go up 7-6.
Amherst extended its lead after a drive that was capped off by a three-yard touchdown run by quarterback Michael Glodowski.
The Falcons took a 21-6 lead late in the second quarter, as Jesse Blenker stripped the ball carrier and returned it for a defensive touchdown.
Blenker on the highlight moment of the game, “I went in low for the tackle, I lowered my shoulder into him, and honestly, I don’t know how the ball got into my hands, and I knew I had to get into the end zone.”
In the third quarter, the Falcons scored with a 39-yard touchdown run by Nerdahl to extend the lead to 28-6.
Glodowski connected on a 30-yard touchdown pass to Sully Perkins that gave them the 34-6 lead.
The Greyhounds scored a touchdown in the final minutes of the fourth quarter to make the final deficit 34-12.
