Posted

STEVENS POINT—On March 16 at 8:07 p.m., a verbal altercation broke out on Mill Street, which turned physical between brothers Ryan and Justin Wojtalewicz. During the altercation, Ryan Wojtalewicz sustained a gunshot wound. He was transported by Amherst Ambulance to the Stevens Point Airport where Medivac flew him to Wausau. At the time he was listed in serious condition with no further updates provided since the March shooting.
Justin Wojtalewicz was arrested and booked into the Portage County Jail where he faces six charges: Attempted 1st Degree Intentional Homicide, Aggravated Battery-Intended Great Bodily Harm, and three counts of 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety. All charges include a modifier of “use of a dangerous weapon.”
On March 18, Wojtalewicz appeared by video in custody for his bond hearing that set a cash bond of one million dollars. Wojtalewicz was also instructed to have no contact with Ryan Wojtalewicz or either of the two witnesses. If bond is met, Wojtalewicz is to not possess any firearms and surrender all firearms, in addition to maintaining sobriety.
Wojtalewicz made his initial appearance in court on April 28 by video in custody. During this appearance, Wojtalewicz and his attorney received copies of the criminal complaint and waived the reading of the complaint. The defense noted they will be filing a motion for bond change, which will be addressed at the preliminary hearing on May 7.
