Amherst Softball goes 1-1 this past week

Amherst softball split two games this week, on April 8 against Assumption and April 10 against Menominee Nation.

Neither team put runs on the scoreboard until the sixth inning, after a single by Arianna Cavanaugh brought in a run to make the score 1-0 in favor of Assumption. Cavanaugh came across home plate after a wild pitch to give Assumption the final run of the game and make it a 2-0 score to take down Amherst.

The Amherst Falcons responded to a scoreless game on April 8 with an explosion at the plate, scoring 19 runs against Menominee Nation.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Falcons got on the board immediately as they loaded the bases. The Amherst batter was hit by a pitch to bring in a run, and a wild pitch brought in a second run for Amherst in the inning.

Another Amherst batter was hit by a pitch to bring in a third run. Calee Schulist hit a single to bring in the fourth run of the inning. Five consecutive walks brought in five runs in the inning. The Falcons scored nine runs in the first inning to take the early 9-0 lead.

An infield single by Menominee Nation gave them their lone run of the game as they were down 9-1.

In the bottom of the second inning, Amherst continued to be walked, to put up runs as they scored with bases loaded to go up 10-1, two more walks gave Amherst the 12-1 lead. A sacrifice fly brought in the 13th run of the game for the Falcons. It became 15-1 after back-to-back Amherst batters were hit by a pitch. Back-to-back walks and another batter that was hit by a pitch made the score 18-1. One more walk made the score 19-1.

The game was called in the middle of the third inning after a mercy ruling went into play.
