Amherst softball takes on Iola-Scandinavia

AMHERST-The Amherst Falcons took on the Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds on April 28 in a Central Wisconsin Conference-East matchup.
 
Amherst jumped out to a large lead in the second inning, as they scored six runs. Aubrey Chandler drove in the first run with a single, and Calee Schulist made it a 3-0 game as she hit into an error. Chandler stole home to make the score 4-0.
 
A loaded bases walk made the score 5-0 in the Falcons' favor as Schulist crossed home plate and Ivy Boelk capped off the inning with an RBI single, putting Iola-Scandinavia in a 6-0 hole.
 
The Thunderbirds cut the Amherst lead in half in the top of the third inning, as Maya Munoz hit a two-run single and get home later in the inning on an error to make the deficit 6-3.
 
Amherst put another run on the board in the third inning to give them a 7-3 lead, as Sam Nooyen drove in a run on a single.
 
In the top of the fifth inning, Iola began chipping away at the lead, as Brylee Jueds hit a two-run single and Katie Rosenthal drove in a run on a fly ball to left field to make the deficit 7-6.
 
Iola took the lead in the sixth inning, as Maggie Maus hit a ground ball and reached on an error as two runs scored to make the final score 8-7.
