The musical “Annie Warbucks” will open at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at Waupaca High School’s Performing Arts Center.
Performances are also scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 2-4, with matinees at 2 p.m. Sundays, July 29 and Aug. 5.
Produced by Waupaca Community Theatre, “Annie Warbucks” is directed by Holly Saunders, who directed last year’s “Annie.”
Nevaeh Johnson and Tim Koll reprise their roles as Annie and Daddy Warbucks, while Pam Gusmer returns as Grace Farrell and Marshall Lysne as President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Based on Harold Gray’s comic strip, “Annie Warbucks” begins immediately where “Annie” ends, Christmas Day in 1933.
Billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his secretary, Grace Farrell, and his newly adopted daughter, Annie, and her friends from the orphanage are singing the closing bars of the song, “A New Deal for Christmas.”
Annie’s Christmas present is the return of her dog, Sandy, performed by Marvel.
Daddy Warbucks later learns from Child Welfare Commissioner Harriet Doyle, played by Pam Lysne, that he must marry within 60 days or Annie will be returned to the orphanage.
Warbucks begins searching for a wife, uncovers a plot to steal his fortune and discovers his true feelings for his secretary.
Among the more than 20 songs are “Annie Ain’t Just Annie Anymore,” “Changes,” “The Other Woman,” “But You Go On,” “Leave It to the Girls,” “All Dolled Up” and “I Always Knew.”
The same team that created “Annie” – music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin and book by Thomas Meehan – created “Annie Warbucks.”
In addition to a cast of more than 30 characters, the production includes a children’s chorus and an adult chorus.
Tickets are $12 and available at the Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce and at the PAC box office prior to each performance.
Waupaca Community Theatre is part of the Waupaca Fine Arts Festival.
