Area teens earn Girl Scouting?s highest award

Posted

Two Waupaca County Girl Scouts earned the Girl Scout Gold Award- the highest award a Girl Scout can earn. The Girl Scout Gold Award is often described as what you really want to be remembered for in Girl Scouting. For many, the leadership skills, organizational skills, and sense of community and commitment that come from "going for the Gold" set the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship. Together, Bobbijo Rineck of Ogdensburg and Aurora May of Manawa set up donation boxes throughout their community to collect blankets, scarves, gloves, hats, stuffed animals, and fleece to donate to Tomorrow's Children, Inc. in Waupaca in order to help children in the social service system feel a connection with their surrounding communities. To keep the project sustainable, Aurora and Bobbijo met with younger Girl Scout troops to show them how to make headbands and to encourage them to complete leadership awards like the Girl Scout Gold Award. These girls have dedicated many hours of service toward making the world and their communities a better place. Earning the Gold Award involves decision making and the ability to follow a plan set by each girl and requires hard work and a willingness to take on significant responsibility.
