AutoZone looks to buy Fulton Street lot

Posted

WAUPACA – The Waupaca City Council is considering a change in zoning on a Fulton Street parcel of land to allow for a new business to make its home in Waupaca.
The new business looking to open in Waupaca is AutoZone, a store that features car parts, batteries and accessories with several locations around Wisconsin. Waupaca would mark its 224th location in Wisconsin.
The parcel in question is located at 660 Hillcrest Drive, which is found at Hillcrest Drive and Fulton Street, across from the Hardee’s.
For years the triangle-shaped property was used as a consignment lot for selling cars and camping trailers and this past summer there were people on site selling peaches and blueberries.
The amendment would include an adjacent parcel with both going from being zoned neighborhood mixed-use to community mixed-use.

The application for the site plan was approved, said Julianna Stohs, the community and economic development director in Waupaca. Moving forward with construction is contingent on the approval from the city council on the change of zoning.
“This would align with the comprehensive plan with the proposed use as well as the adjacent parcel which is to be merged and zoned appropriately as part of a submitted comprehensive survey map,” Stohs said at the public hearing Sept. 16.
A comprehensive plan gives direction to how a city, township or village plans the community’s future economic growth and development, namely in highlighting potential long-term goals.
A community’s comprehensive plan should be updated every ten years.
Mayor Brian Smith said the measure will need to be read a second time before it is taken to a vote, as with any zoning code or ordinance change.
The second reading is set to take place Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. at city hall on 111 S. Main St.
