The future of the Log Cabin Bar in Mukwa is uncertain after a structure fire “gutted” the basement below the tavern’s living quarters, according to New London Fire Department.
“It is unknown at this time if or when the bar could reopen for business,” New London Fire Capt. Don Conat stated in a news release.
Nobody was injured in the structure fire, which occurred late afternoon Thursday, April 18, at the bar located at E8557 State Highway 54.
Firefighters were dispatched to the bar at 4:25 p.m. and arrived to heavy smoke coming from the basement below the rear living quarters, according to Conat.
They knocked down the flames in the basement but remained on scene for about two hours to extinguish smoldering areas in the walls of the living quarters.
The basement was destroyed. The living quarters and bar received considerable smoke damage, according to NLFD.
Electricity was disconnected to the structure due to the extent of damage to the wiring and walls.
The property owner reported having electrical problems in the basement prior to the fire.
