Joan Phyllis Borchardt-Ingmanson, 75, beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother received her crown of life on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at her home in Greeley, Colorado with loved ones at her side.
“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12.
Joan was born September 28, 1949 in Fairmont, Minnesota to the late Lewis and Ida (Detert) Balcom. She grew up with her two sisters, Lola and Vera, and brother, Russell, on the family farm in Weyauwega, Wisconsin. She was confirmed in 1963 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Weyauwega, Wisconsin. Joan graduated from Weyauwega High School in 1967.
Joan married David Lee Borchardt on August 29, 1971. The couple moved to Colorado and were blessed with two children: Jessica and Seth. Jessica passed away in 1973, and David passed away in 1983. Joan and her son Seth ultimately returned to Wisconsin and lived in the Appleton area.
Joan met her soulmate, Scott Taber Ingmanson, in the fall of 1993. Scott’s personal ad in the paper was just too irresistible for her to pass up. Joan and Scott were married on June 25, 1995 and initially lived in Omro, Wisconsin; then eventually made their home out west in Greeley, Colorado to be closer to family.
Joan enjoyed a long and successful career with the United States Post Office where she held many positions from clerk to letter carrier to supervisor. She retired in 2002 to focus her time and energy on her other passions such as volunteering, traveling, golfing, bowling, and spending time with family. Joan served the Greeley community in a number of volunteer efforts over the years. Joan and Scott created many wonderful memories over the years on their adventures together throughout the US and Europe. They always seemed to make fast friends with everyone they met. Joan enjoyed all the time spent with her golf and bowling league friends and cherished their friendships. Joan was an avid supporter and regular attendee at numerous events and activities for her grandchildren.
Joan and Scott are members of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Greeley, Colorado. Joan held firm to her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and that strong faith brought her peace throughout her race here on earth, ultimately succumbing to the effects of ALS.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2.
Joan is survived by her husband Scott Ingmanson and his two daughters: Lisa Lasho and her children, Caden and Harper; Christine (Evan) Usher and their children, Kai and Cruz; her son Seth (Jana) Borchardt and their five boys: Jaxon, Cy, Gavin, Brooks, and Sawyer; her sister Lola (Arnold) Lucero and their son, Daniel; her sister Vera Boone and her daughter, Amber; her brother-in-law Lance (Cindy) Ingmanson; her sister-in-law Leslie (Peter) Miller and their sons, Noah and Nathaniel; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Ida Balcom; her brother, Russell Balcom; her brother-in-law, Mike Boone; her daughter, Jessica Borchardt; and Seth’s dad, David Borchardt.
The family wishes to express our deepest thanks to Pathways Hospice Care Center for their extraordinary level of care and compassion given during Joan’s final days.

Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Greeley, Colorado - Memorial Service at 11:00 AM with light lunch to follow provided by the Shepherd of the Hills Women’s Ministry.
Saturday, November 9, 2024 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Weyauwega, Wisconsin - Memorial Service at 1:00 PM with light refreshments to follow provided by the St. Peter’s Women’s Ministry.
Saturday November 9, 2024 at Oakwood Cemetery, Weyauwega, Wisconsin - Interment of Joan’s cremains at the family plot at 2:30 PM.
