Bridge to stay closed

City may remove it in future

By Bert Lehman

In an 8-2 vote on July 11, the Clintonville City Council approved permanently closing a pedestrian bridge over the Pigeon River, and possibly removing it in the future.

Street Committee Chairman Jim Supanich told the council the pedestrian bridge is in poor condition. He said the concrete is deteriorating, the fencing is not in good condition, and it’s not structurally sound.

Supanich added that the cost estimate to repair the bridge is $74,475.

The council was told the street committee recommended closing the pedestrian bridge and eventually removing it.

The official motion was to close the pedestrian bridge, with the potential to remove it in the future. Alderman Brad Rokus and Alderwoman Amy Steenbock voted no.

Rec Center

The council was informed by Clintonville City Administrator Sharon Eveland that a community feedback session to obtain input from the community about the Rec Center in Clintonville was held, but attendance was sparse.

“I did not get the kind of turnout I had hoped to get. I had really hoped there would be more people,” Eveland said.

She said there wasn’t a consensus from those in attendance as to what to do with the Rec Center.

An online survey may need to be conducted by the city to obtain more input, Eveland said.

Compensation study

Eveland clarified to the council what her plans are for having the city do a compensation study regarding city employees.

“A compensation study is not going to just look at the pay,” Eveland said. “This will be looking at updating job descriptions. This will be looking at creating a salary schedule that we don’t currently have. That will structure what we’re paying people a little more.”

The study would also include a comparison of compensation as a whole, Eveland said.

Comprehensive plan

The council unanimously approved a contract with East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission in the amount of $16,500 with costs not to exceed $17,500 for the creation of the Clintonville Comprehensive Plan Year 2040.

Eveland told the council that this process was started by former Clintonville City Administrator Chuck Kell. She added that the amount came in under budget, as she said $30,000 was originally authorized for it.

Fox Cities Magazine

Eveland shared copies of the most recent issue of Fox Cities Magazine. The city of Clintonville is featured in the magazine. She said some copies of the magazine will be available at city hall.

For sale signs

The council approved the purchase of for sale signs to be placed by city property it has for sale, especially property along the current Main Street detour route.

The council approved up to $300 from the city’s contingency fund to cover the cost of the signs.

Eveland told the council that a community member had originally suggested that the city place for sale signs in those areas.

“I think it’s a really good idea,” Eveland said.

She also encouraged community members to forward their ideas to herself or their alderperson.

Crop lease

The council approved a crop lease with Bob Schmidt for $200 per acre. The length of the contract will be two years.
