Cardinals have Polar Bears number

Keep fighting.

That was the message coach Nick Reichert had for his Hortonville football team Oct. 4 minutes after the Polar Bears ended up on the short end of a 21-0 score to Fond du Lac in a matchup of Fox Valley Association teams.

Not only was it the team’s annual Homecoming game at Akin Field, it was also the last home game of the season, as the Polar Bears will wrap up the season with road games against Oshkosh West and Neenah.

It was also a chance for Hortonville to pick up its second FVA win, as both teams entered the game with identical 1-5 overall and 1-3 conference records.

Mason Henschel opened the scoring for the Cardinals, as his 7-yard run with 3:43 remaining in the first quarter gave the visitors a 7-0 lead.

Fond du Lac added to its lead in the third quarter after a fumble set the Cardinals up at the Hortonville 16-yard line. Deandre Williamson Jr. scored on a 4-yard run and the Cardinals took a 13-0 lead into the fourth quarter.

Williamson capped the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 14-yard pass to Conor Johnson
