Cereal numbers

Students rally for good cause

STEVENS POINT – Students at St. Paul Lutheran School spent the month of February collected a total of 923 boxes of cereal to support a local food pantry, easily beating their goal of 600 boxes. Their efforts were part of a statewide contest organized by Do Good Wisconsin, an initiative designed to encourage youth engagement in philanthropy and community service.
The school’s student council organized the cereal drive and they finished the campaign by unending a Cereal Box Domino Challenge on March 3. Students carefully arranged the boxes throughout the hallways knocked off a chain reaction with the cereal boxes falling over like a domino-style cascade.
Schools are competing against schools of similar size, with winners determined by two factors: the total number of cereal boxes collected and the creativity of their domino fall video. Schools across Wisconsin are submitting their videos to Do Good Wisconsin in time for National Cereal Day on March 7. Winners will be recognized with a special trophy presented by the organization at a later date.
St. Paul Lutheran School will donate 893 boxes of cereal to The Interfaith Food Pantry of Portage County and keep 30 boxes for St. Paul Lutheran’s food pantry, Cupboards for Christ. “Do Good Wisconsin’s mission is to foster a culture of kindness, giving, and philanthropy throughout Wisconsin,” said Eric Salzwedel, Executive Director and Co-Founder of the organization. “The Cereal Box Domino Challenge gives schools a chance to have fun, collaborate, and learn about philanthropy. We want students of every age to know that you’re never too young to have a positive influence on others.”
