Chainopoly update

Posted

Roll the dice, advance to another lake and draw a card that might say, “Free boat tow, advance to boat landing, collect $250.”

Another card might read: “Perform onstage at Indian Crossing Casino, owner pays you $50.” Draw another: “Caught tree jumping on Loyola ... chased by Jesuits, go back three spaces.” Draw another: “Take the kids to Scoopers, pay $15.”

Chainopoly is the creation of Waupaca native Seth Nelson and he launched the project in the summer of 2023. It nears completion and the boxes will be printed next week.

“Through the Indiegogo campaign we pre-sold 30 board games and raised close to $2,500. I supplied an additional $2,500 of my own money to finance the project for 50 games,” said Nelson.

He partnered with Ian Polebitski of IJP Graphic Design for the images of the various spaces and lakes, including making the funny money which has the denomination, images of a motorboat and a pontoon boat, and says, “In Lakes We Trust.”

Once the pre-sold games are shipped next week, Nelson will be launching a Shopify website to sell the remaining inventory in time for a Christmas gift. Once those sell out, he will produce more games according to customer demand.

Chainopoly is like the classic board game Monopoly but instead of Marvin Gardens and Park Place, its Sunset Lake and a boat landing (collect $250 when you pass it).

Entrepreneurs seeking to build a real estate empire on the Chain O’ Lakes can rent out boathouses and cottages.

Also like Monopoly’s oddball properties like water works, the railroads and the electric company; Chainopoly has the Wisconsin Veterans Home, Camp Onaway and Camp Tamarack and four hotspots: Thom Thumb Mini Golf, the Wheelhouse Restaurant, Indian Crossing Casino and Clear Water Harbor Waterfront Restaurant and Bar.
