Comets win seventh straight

A seven-game winning streak has the Waupaca Comet baseball team right in the thick of the Eastern Valley Conference race.



The Comets defeated Berlin twice in the past week and also picked up wins over Hortonville and Clintonville.



Waupaca 13, Berlin 0



Waupaca 17, Berlin 2



BERLIN - The Comets handed the Indians a 13-0 loss Saturday, May 7, and also picked up a win two days earlier in Berlin.



Waupaca scored 14 runs in the top of the first inning in Berlin before adding a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth.



Berlin scored once in the third and once in the fourth. Waupaca outhit the Indians 18-6.



Seth Deuman led Waupaca at the plate with two doubles and five RBIs, while Jake Reedy added two hits and four RBIs.



Kevin Moe picked up the win on the mound.



Waupaca 5, Hortonville 3



HORTONVILLE - Reedy hit a three-run home run in the sixth and Cody Houtman added a two-run shot in the fourth to lift the Comets over the Polar Bears Friday, May 6.



Hortonville scored a run in the third, but Houtman's homer gave Waupaca the lead for good. Reedy's homer gave WAupaca a 5-1 lead, but Hortonville's Andrew Wolf hit a two-run homer in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-3.



Houtman and Reedy each had two of Waupaca's eight hits, while Josh Houtman picked up the win on the mound.



Waupaca 8, Clintonville 3



WAUPACA - Waupaca erased a 3-2 deficit with six runs in the bottom of the sixth.



The Comets scored a run in the first and fifth, but Clintonville scored twice in the third and once in the sixth to go up 3-2.



Beau Ash and Casey Nicewander each had two of Waupaca's seven hits, while Moe got the win on the mound.



The wins over Berlin and Clintonville gave the Comets a 6-2 mark in EVC play, good enough for second place behind Ripon. Waupaca will travel to Clintonville for a 4:45 p.m. game Friday, May 13, before hosting Stevens Point Pacelli for a doubleheader at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14.
