Exavier Dimick and Jesse Huggins both earned trips to the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison Feb. 24-26.
Dimick, wrestling at 140 pounds, won his first match at sectionals by pin in 4:49. He followed that match with a 7-4 decision that put him in the championship match against Mosinee's Jordon Roosa. Dimick beat Roosa 7-5 to capture first place and earn a first-round bye at state. His first match at state will be on Friday, Feb. 25 at 11:15 a.m.
Huggins, wrestling at 135 pounds, earned a trip to state after three tough matches. He began the day by winning a 5-3 decision and then a narrow 9-8 decision, putting him in the championship match. Huggins lost that match by a 4-6 decision to Seymour's Alex Schramm, but took second place in the tournament, qualifying him for state. His first match will be on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7:15 p.m.
Trucker grapplers Dustin Zarnoth (119 pounds) and Jake Reiter (189 pounds) also competed at sectionals. Zarnoth lost his first two matches, while Reiter lost a narrow 4-6 decision to end his day.
