CLINTONVILLE – The current press box at Don Jirschele Stadium will be removed and replaced by a new one to be built by the Clintonville Athletic Club (CAC).
At its Jan. 29 meeting, the Clintonville Public Works Committee approved having the city’s Public Works Department cover the cost of removing the current press box and storage building at the stadium.
Justin Mc Auly, director of the Clintonville Public Works Department, told the committee that the cost to remove the press box and storage facility is included in the city’s operational budget. A contractor plans to donate their time to tear down the building, and city staff will haul the material away.
“This isn’t going to cost our taxpayers anything outside our operational (budget),” Mc Auly said.
Mc Auly said the city has been in contact with the CAC, who is in favor of removing the current press box building because the new press box will be built in the same location. Because of that, Mc Auly said the city needs to remove the current deteriorating press box.
“This would have been removed eventually anyways,” Mc Auly said. “They’re already coming up with plans to have an open spot for their announcing and their scoreboard.”
New press box
According to a Jan. 29 memo from Mc Auly to members of the Public Works Committee, the foundation of the current press box and storage building has shown signs of failure, and the building has started to lean toward the East. Removing the building would allow the CAC to proceed with constructing a new building, which would include a press box, storage for equipment, and a new batting cage, which would be covered.
The CAC will pay for the cost to build a new press box building.
In a Jan. 14 memo from Mc Auly to the Public Works Committee, Mc Auly stated that the city has been “working very closely with the CAC in regard to the new build.” He also stated the city’s building inspector said they did not see any issues with the new press box building.
Mc Auly also stated that the city has contacted the Wisconsin DNR to “make sure there isn’t any limitations or permitting needed on behalf of the DNR.”
