Aimee Ebert was appointed to the Clintonville Common Council to fill the vacant seat for District 1.

The Clintonville Common Council approved the appointment when it met July 9. The vacancy was due to the May 1 resignation of Mark Zachow. Ebert will fill the remainder of Zachow’s term, which will expire in April 2025.

Ebert told the Clintonville Tribune-Gazette that she and her husband moved to Clintonville two years ago from the Milwaukee area.

“We really wanted to get away from the big city. Just having a place that was better for raising a family,” Ebert said.

She said she decided to apply for the council vacancy because she was curious about how the local government works in the city.

“I love the small-town aspect,” Ebert said. “I want to help ensure that Clintonville is going to be a good place to raise my family, and hopefully for my kids to raise their kids.”

She added, “This being my first term and stepping into the position mid-term, my short-term goals are to learn how the city operates and get familiar with its policies and regulations, engaging with and listening to the needs of the residents, facilitating great communication. Long-term, working collaboratively with parents and families to increase the safety and inclusiveness of our parks.”

Ebert attended the July council meeting in which she was appointed.

“I got to hear some citizens talk about some issues that are important to them, so that was eye-opening there,” Ebert said. “The other members of the council welcomed me with open arms. It was a really positive experience.”

One of the things Ebert said she wants to be involved with as a council member is the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.

“I have four kids, so that’s important to me,” she said. “Just somehow help them improve and maybe get things running a little bit more smoothly there.”

Ebert is an instructional paraprofessional at Clintonville Elementary School.

She said her and her family enjoy camping, hiking, and fishing. She also enjoys gardening, foraging, growing her own food and cooking it, and reading.
