Firefighters respond to burning barn

Posted
Local firefighters were called to a barn fire shortly before 11 a.m. Monday, June 13, in the town of Waupaca.

Waupaca Fire Chief Jeff Olson said firefighters were called out to the home of George Ehrenberg, N4002 Pope Road.

"We found a steel building fully involved and the roof completely down," Olson said.

Ehrenberg had been working on a tractor outside the building when he noticed the fire. He was later taken by ambulance to Riverside Medical Center for burns on his arm.

Firfighters removed the barn's steel siding, then called in a back hoe from Paul's Concrete to knock down a lean-to, remove some of the steel siding and the hay that was burning.

Three tractors, a riding lawn mower and pickup truck that were stored inside the barn were all lost to the fire.

Olson said the cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.
