The Waupaca Area Public Library’s First Thursday Film Series has returned for a fall series.
All shows begin at 1:30 p.m. in the lower level of the library with a pre-recorded introduction by the late Dr. Jack Rhodes followed by additional comments by Steve Imm.
On Oct. 5, the library will screen “The Prisoner of Zenda,” a 1952 action drama starring Stewart Granger, Deborah Kerr and James Mason and directed by Richard Thorpe.
The story features political intrigue, a kidnapping plot, treachery and betrayal.
On Nov. 2, “The Steel Helmet” stars Gene Evans, Robert Hutton, Steve Brodie, James Edwards and Richard Loo.
This 1951 film about the Korean War was directed by Samuel Fuller, who became a crime reporter at age 17, wrote a syndicated column during the Great Depression as he sojourned across the country aboard freight trains, then enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II at age 29.
Fuller was involved in action in Africa, Sicily, Normandy, Belgium and Czechoslovakia. His personal experiences influenced the war movies that he wrote and directed, including “The Steel Helmet” and “The Big Red One.” His films are often gritty, shocking, controversial and critically acclaimed.
On Dec. 7, the library will show “A Christmas Story,” a 1983 comedy directed by Bob Clark and based on the book “In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash” by Jean Shepherd.
Darren McGavin, Peter Billingsley and Melinda Dillon star in this holiday classic about 9-year-old Ralphie, who wants a Red Ryder air rifle for Christmas, but everyone, including a department store Santa, tells him, “You’ll shoot your eye out!”
Complimentary movie treats and popcorn will be available at this free event.
The library will host its Lunch and Learn program on the first Wednesday of the month.
On Oct. 4, the Waupaca High School robotics team will talk about how to design a robot.
On Nov. 1, Jeff Steuer will discuss the Climate Reality Project.

Menet is a retired physician trained in functional medicine and certified in the Dr. Bresden ReCode 2.0 program.
On Nov. 16, Dr. Ivan Wayne returns to present “All Sorted Out; A Personality Diagnostic for Harry Potter Houses” and “Fake is the Wrong Word; The Psychology of Professional Wrestling” on Dec. 14.
