Waupaca and New London’s football teams came up short in their nonconference home openers with Wrightstown and Little Chute.
Wrightstown handed Waupaca a 28-0 loss Aug. 25 at Comet Field, while the Bulldogs dropped a 33-6 decision to Little Chute at Bulldog Stadium.
Wrightstown led 22-0 at halftime and outscored the Comets 6-0 in the second quarter.
Payton Vande Hey capped the Tigers’ opening drive with a 3-yard run and Wrightstown added two more scores in the second quarter on Quade Thompson’s 18-yard pass to Gavin Ducat and Landon Helphrey’s recovery of teammate Aiden Humphreys’ fumble in the end zone.
The Tigers wrapped up the scoring in the third quarter on a 4-yard run from Humphreys.

New London’s touchdown came in the fourth quarter on Tyler Gerrits’ 2-yard pass to Mike Helsten.
Tommy Fields led the Bulldogs with 107 rushing yards on 30 carries, while Hunter Beebe caught three passes for 35 yards.
Waupaca and New London have games against North Eastern Conference teams scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21. Waupaca will head to Denmark, while the Bulldogs will travel to Luxemburg to face Luxemburg-Casco.
