Forfeits stall New London wrestling

Several forfeits by the New London Bulldogs prevented them from overcoming the deficits against the Seymour Thunder at home on Jan. 16. Falling in their dual meet 47-22.

Seymour took an early 6-0 lead after decisions in the 150 and 157-pound weight classes went their way.

The Bulldogs got their first victory, with a major decision by Owen Ross cutting the Seymour lead to 6-4, and a pin by Phoenix Fletcher gave New London’s in the 175-pound division gave them a 10-6 lead.

Howie Roloff had the major decision victory in the 190 weight class giving the Bulldogs the 13-6 lead.

The Thunder cut the deficit to 13-12 as the Division Two second-ranked 215-pound Cael Leisgang defeated the third-ranked Preston Krueger by pinfall.
A pinfall by 285-pound Brock Soscha gave the lead back to Seymour as they went up 18-13.

Forfeits in the 106, 113, a pin by Seymours Logan Bohnlein at the 120 pounds, and forfeit in 126-pound made the lead insurmountable for New London.

Competing for pride and individual wins. New Londons’ William Christopher and Seymours Aidan Peters competed in the match of the night, as both came into the meet as top 10 in the 132-pound weight class.

Christopher and Peter needed an extra minute as both could only score one takedown against each other. Christopher finished the match as the victor, winning the 4-1 decision.
