Frederick "Freddy" "Fred" Goetsch

Posted
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Frederick "Freddy" "Fred" Goetsch, of Weyauwega, at the age of 86. He passed away at home, surrounded by his loved ones. Fred was born on December 15, 1939, to the late Mabel (Impleman) and Clifford "Sam" Goetsch on the family farm in Weyauwega, Wisconsin. He grew up alongside his three brothers, Russel, Jerry, and Danny, and their younger sister, Sharon.

At age 17, Fred enlisted in the Navy and proudly served for three and a half years, including two years stationed in Japan. His military service was one of the many meaningful chapters of his life. His greatest chapter began on June 30, 1962, when he married his beloved wife, Darlene Osterloth. Together, they built a life filled with love, hard work, and plenty of family memories.

Fred had a long career path and was always on the "go". He worked for Jenson Pacific Steel in California before returning home to work for Kalopa Sewer. He later worked for Milwaukee Underground Sewer, spent 15 years at Schabo's, and then joined Wick Buildings. Eventually, he purchased a milk route and took great pride in serving the best local farmers. Over time, dump trucks and semis became part of the operation. In his later years, he transported milk samples for more than a decade. Fred truly embodied hard work and dedication.

Beyond his work, Fred gave generously to the community. He served on the fair board for 21 years and was a devoted member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Weyauwega. He also served with the local fire department for 26 years, including four years as assistant chief. Whether he was mowing lawns, helping with Horse and Buggy Days-where he and Darlene were once honored as King and Queen-riding with his scooter group, or visiting over morning coffee, Fred had a gift for showing up when people needed him.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Darlene; his three children and their spouses, Bruce (Cherie) Goetsch, Amy (Carey) Simpson, and Lori (Ben) Bodoh; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a sister, three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his three loving brothers, one sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law.

The Christian Memorial Service for Fred will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 11:30 AM at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Weyauwega with Rev. Aaron Kristopeit officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the church on Thursday from 9:30 AM until 11:15 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Weyauwega Fire Department.

The family extends its deepest gratitude to ThedaCare Hospice team, Synergy HomeCare and the Weyauwega community for the kindness, care and support shown to Fred and his loved ones. The Goetsch brothers are together once again.
