FVTC Spring Fun Extravaganza set for April 9

Fox Valley Technical College - Waupaca will hold its Spring Fun Extravaganza from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at 1979 Godfrey Drive.



Participants will be able to take up to four classes for the price of $20.63. For those age 62 and older, the cost is $19.29. Some of the classes will have material fees.

Concessions will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. during Spring Fun Extravaganza.



The classes will include the following:



??"Basic Electrical Wiring for the Homeowner" from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Instructor Doug Wilke will teach the basic fundamentals of home wiring and hands-on projects that are related to activities that would be performed around the house. There is a $5 material fee.



??"Basic Fishing Techniques" from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.



??"Bicycle Maintenance and Repair" from 8 a.m. to noon. The program is open to those age 14 and older. Materials needed are safety glasses, a bicycle and a basic tool kit. There is a $4 material fee.



??"Binoculars: What's Right for You" from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Naturalist and bird-watcher Steve Petznick will teach what all the numbers and terminology mean so that people can make informed decisions about the purchase of binoculars.



??"Birdscaping" from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. This class explains the structural components that are necessary to both draw and keep birds in a yard.



??"Boating Safety on the Water" from 10 a.m. to noon and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The class focuses on safety equipment rules and regulations, advantages and disadvantages of different boats, environmental issues and concerns for other boaters.



??"Building a Squirrel-proof Bird Feeder" from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants should bring a power drill, a one-fourth-inch drill bit, tin snips and shears or a similar wire cutting tool. There is a $10 material fee.



??"Do-it-yourself Bath Products" from 8 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Learn how to make scented bath salts, lip scrub and herbal bath soak. The class is open to those age 7 and older. There is an $18 material fee.



??"Do-it-yourself Irrigation for Gardens and Home Lawns" from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. It will cover irrigation water source development, basic garden irrigation design, lawn sprinkler irrigation design and drip irrigation.



??"Gardening With the Expert" from 9 a.m. to noon. Offers tips on how to wake up a garden, spring planting and pruning, composting and making rain barrels.



??"Geocaching: Family Fun Wherever You Go" from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The class will show how to use a GPS unit to find caches placed close to home or around the world. Participants should dress for the weather. Those who have a smart phone or a hand-held GPS can bring them.



??"Green Cleaning" from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. will focus on a environmentally friendly approach to household cleaning. Recipes for making green cleaning products will be provided.



??"Greening Your Home" from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Participants will learn how to make changes in their homes that are healthier for both them and the environment.



??"Grillin' 101" from 10 a.m. to noon. Chef Gary Lyons, of FVTC's Culinary Arts Department, will demonstrate different cooking techniques that can be used on gas and charcoal grills. There is a $4 material fee.



??"Mosaic Steppingstones" from 8 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Students will create mosaic garden steppingstones cast in concrete. Safety glasses, a plastic bucket and small rags should be brought to the class. The material fee is $32.50.



??"Pond and Small Lake Development and Maintenance" from 10 a.m. to noon will cover the development and maintenance of ponds and small lakes for recreation, landscape aesthetics and to attract wildlife and water fowl.



??"Solar and Wind: Is it Right for You?" from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., will talk about how the technology works, the cost, incentives and about how people can take advantage of clean, free energy.



??"Swedish Weaving" from 8 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The is open to those age 9 and older. Participants will learn about Swedish weaving and make a Swedish table runner. There is a $10 material fee.
