Marlys Louise (Bruss) Gast, age 88, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Ascension St Elizabeth’s Hospital in Appleton, Wisconsin.

She was born on October 7, 1934 in Clintonville, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Walter and Lorna (Velte) Bruss. She graduated high school on May 27, 1952. Was married to Herman Gast, Jr from August 7, 1954 to October 8, 1963. Together they farmed just outside of Clintonville and had four daughters. She retired in 1995 after a long career at the Clintonville Utilities. She was a faithful dedicated member of St Martin Lutheran Church her whole life where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. Through the years she served the Lord as a member of Ladies Aid, Sewing, and the church Choir due to her love of singing. She was actively involved in the community volunteering for the local Blood Mobile and serving on the Graceland Cemetery Board. She enjoyed polka dancing, flower gardening, playing cards and dominos, knitting, puzzles, and her best loved joy of spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marlys is survived by her daughters Cindee (John) Cieslinski of Random Lake; Cheryl Jannusch of Neenah; Cathy (Dennis) Wied of Clintonville; her brother Robert (Kathy) Bruss of Shawano; her Aunt Arlyce Velte of Clintonville; her grandchildren Patrick (Jordan) Cieslinski of West Chicago; Michael (Chelsy) Jannusch of Menasha; Meghan (Andy) Heiman of Clintonville; Melissa Jannusch of Appleton; Adam (Becca) Wied of Oshkosh; Kyle Wied of Appleton; Alex Wied of Appleton; and Maloree Wied of Clintonville; and her great-grandchildren Stiven Jannusch, Leah, Josie, and Beck Heiman, Wyatt Jannusch, Avilian and Nolan Westphal, and Violet and Henry Wied. Marlys is further survived by nieces and nephews Tim (Sheri) Thern, Kari (Mark) Niemuth, Andy (Lindsey) Thern, Michelle (Nick) Huebner, Todd (Fran) Bruss, and Brian (Dede) Bruss.

Marlys was preceded in death by her daughter Nancy, her parents Walter and Lorna, and her sister Dorothy (Bruss) Thern of New London.

Heartfelt thanks to Eva Novak, Joan Gunther, St Martin Lutheran Church, Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home, Ascension St Elizabeth Hospital, and Heart and Vascular Institute of Wisconsin faculties and staff for all your help, guidance, and compassion to our family through this difficult time. Marlys will be very missed by her family, cousins, great nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Come and share your memories with her family. Funeral services will be held 12 PM Friday, October 6, 2023 at St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville, with the Rev. Hayden Lukas officiating. Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery, Clintonville, following the service.

Visitation will take place at the church on Friday from 10 AM until the time of service.
