Mark Anthony Gay, passed away on August 20, 2023, as a complication of his 2 1/2 year challenge fighting cancer.
Mark was born on May 7, 1959, to Robert and Jeanette Gay. He spent his childhood in Amery, Wisconsin and moved to Clintonville when he was in high school. After graduating from Clintonville High School in 1977, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. After three years of college, he headed to Alaska to work during his summer break. Mark fell in love with Alaska and did not return to live in Wisconsin for 35 years. In 1986 Mark’s beloved son, Chancy James, was born. Mark loved being a dad and lavished his son with love and attention. After losing Chancy in an accident in 2004, the light in Mark’s eyes dimmed. His joy in life never fully recovered from this loss. He returned to Wisconsin eight years ago to be closer to family and his aging parents. He enjoyed watching sports with his dad, playing scrabble with his mom, and playing card games with any willing family member.
Mark is preceded in death by his son, Chancy James, and his parents Bob and Jeanette Gay. He is survived by his five siblings: Julie Gay (Bill Domina); Jill Gretzinger (Colny); Joni Hoppe (Jim); Jeni Fehrman (Doug) and brother, Douglas Gay. He is also survived by his 11 nieces and nephews.
A private family burial is planned. To sign the guest book, please visit oconnellfh.com.
