Golfers move on

Three area golfers competed at their respective sectional meet Tuesday, May 31.



Waupaca's Tyler Donaldson played at the Division 2 Luxemburg-Casco Sectional at Northbrook Country Club in Luxemburg, while Iola-Scandinavia's Ben Bauer and Amherst's Jesse Peterson played at the Division 3 Marathon Sectional at Pine Valley Golf Course.



All three golfers qualified Tuesday, May 24, out of regional competition. Donaldson placed 10th overall at the Little Chute Regional at Kaukauna's Fox Valley Golf Club with a round of 83 and Bauer placed 16th at the I-S Regional at Glacier Wood Golf Course with a 91. Peterson also tied for medalist honors after shooting a 79.



Donaldson and the Comets tied for sixth with Wautoma with a round of 358. Other scores for Waupaca were Ryan Fuss, 88; Chris Kesler, 91; Ryan Thern, 96; and Grant Stearns, 102.



Weyauwega-Fremont also placed 10th at Kaukauna, but did not have any golfers move on. Scores were Cole Hildebrand, 97; Tony Austreng and Dakota Saase, 103; Nate Benz, 112; and Elijah Porter, 137.



The Thunderbirds placed sixth at their regional with a 383. Other scores for the T-Birds were Bryant Boyle, 95; Andrew Bauer, 98; Tanner Olson, 99; and Tyler Faldet, 101.



Other scores for Amherst were Andy Onan, 98; Matt Gosh, 114; Trace Ludeman, 116; and Jared Boring, 128.



"I am proud of our team and how they played consistently throughout this season," I-S coach Alan Bauer said. "Our seniors have all played four years and have improved their game each year. Ben Bauer, Bryant Boyle, Ben Bonikowske and Tyler Faldet are a group of young men that have worked hard and been wonderful teammates."





The top two teams at sectionals and the top three individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the state meet, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, June 6-7, at Verona's University Ridge Golf Course.
