Heideman elected school board president

NEW LONDON – John Heideman, who has served as vice-president of the New London Board of Education the past three years was elected as president when the board met for a special meeting April 30.
Heideman replaces Chris Martinson, who had served as board president for several years. Martinson nominated Heideman for president. No other board members were nominated.
Katie Batten was the only board member nominated for vice-president of the board and was elected to the position.
Holly Schweitzer was elected board secretary, as she was the only board member that was nominated and accepted the nomination. Board member Mark Grossman was also nominated for the position, but he declined the nomination.
Grossman and board member Nate Grundy were nominated for the treasurer position. Grossman won the election for treasurer by a 5-2 vote.
