HORTONVILLE- The Kimberly Papermakers improved to 2-3 on the season with a decisive 29-13 victory over the Hortonville Polar Bears on Sept. 18. Kimberly pulled away to hand Hortonville its third loss of the year.
Kimberly set the tone on the ground, piling up 301 total rushing yards and three touchdowns on 43 carries.
Running back Carter Rosen carried the ball 27 times for 239 yards and two touchdowns, highlighted by a 60-yard run. Quarterback Rylan Welch provided balance in the backfield, adding 49 rushing yards and a touchdown on 12 carries while going 6-for-11 passing for 83 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Welch connected with wide receiver Maddux Hermus for a 24-yard touchdown strike.
Quarterback AJ Pheifer accounted for both of Hortonville’s scores, punching in a short rushing touchdown and connecting with wide receiver Grady Quick for a 17-yard passing touchdown. Pheifer finished 17-of-29 for 207 yards through the air.
Hortonville was led defensively by Quick, who had nine solo tackles and a tackle for loss, and Aydan Kruzicki had seven solo tackles. Jon Ebert snagged the Polar Bears’ sole interception.
