Hortonville struggled to find wins early in 2025 and started the campaign 0-7.
The Polar Bears got their first victory over an Oshkosh West team that finished 1-8 and followed with an upset over Neenah at the end of the season to finish 2-7 and 2-5 in the Fox Valley Association.
The Polar Bears return several starters, including Fox Valley Association honorable mention quarterback AJ Pheifer, who passed for 1,371 yards and seven touchdowns in 2025, and also rushed for 216 yards and five touchdowns.
Hortonville also returns their leading rusher from a season ago in Jack Holdren, who rushed for 567 yards and seven touchdowns while being named honorable mention. He will be joined by Tristan Berrens, who rushed for 214 yards in 2025.
Honorable Mention tight end Jon Englebert will be utilized more in the passing game as he caught 20 passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns in his junior year.
Connor Christensen, who hauled in 26 passes for 246 yards and a touchdown last year, will look to become the number one receiver for Hortonville as he will take over in production for Isaac Behnke, who was a first-team All-FVA wideout in 2025 with 50 catches for 672 yards and two touchdowns and graduated this spring.
The defense will need to replace plenty of players as their top four leading tacklers have graduated, including FVA-honorable mention linebacker Jack Tennie, who had 49 tackles, and Owen Niebauer, who totaled 46 tackles and a fumble recovery.
