A 25-16 scoring advantage in the second half lifted Manawa to a 42-36 win over Iola-Scandinavia Friday, Jan. 6, in a Central Wisconsin 8 Conference girls' basketball matchup.
I-S also fell to Tigerton 50-37 Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Manawa 42, I-S 36
MANAWA - The Thunderbirds outscored the host Wolves 13-7 in the first quarter, but Manawa came back with a 10-7 advantage in the second quarter to cut the lead to 20-17 at halftime.
Manawa took a 30-23 lead into the fourth quarter after outscoring the T-Birds 13-3 in the third quarter and I-S had a 13-12 over the final eight minutes.
Karina Welch led the T-Birds with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Jane Oligney and Brooke Phillips chipped in with six points and Phillips and Elle Maus added five rebounds each.
Paige Schernecker and Katrina Wilz led Manawa with eight points each.
Tigerton 50, I-S 37
TIGERTON - Erin and Emily Ortner combined for 30 of Tigerton's 50 points.
The Tigers led 13-10 after one quarter, 28-16 at halftime and 40-29 after three quarters.
Phillips, Oligney and Maus just missed finishing double figures for the T-Birds with nine points each. Phillips pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, while Kylie Johnson and Emily Sether added six each.
Erin Ortner led Tigerton with 18 points, while Emily finished with 12. Johnson also added five assists and four steals.
The T-Birds hosted Weyauwega-Fremont Tuesday, Jan. 10, and will play at Bonduel today (Thursday, Jan. 12).
