Iola-Scandinavia boys take on Amherst in rivalry matchup

The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds went to Amherst to take on the Falcons on Jan. 26 in a Central Wisconsin Conference-East rivalry.

Amherst took an early lead in the first half as they went up by a score of 20-10 over the Thunderbirds in the opening nine minutes of play, as Cannen Hodges scored a layup to cap the Falcons’ scoring run.

The Falcons continued to extend their lead as they got up 36-26, but the Thunderbirds closed the gap before halftime as the deficit was 36-30 in favor of Amherst.

Thunderbirds went on a 9-2 run to take a 39-38 lead in the opening minutes of the second half.

It became a back-and-forth matchup as Amherst would take the lead 47-46.

Alex Robbins was the leading scorer for the Thunderbirds with 23 points, while Korz Loken scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds. RJ Opperman pitched 16 points of his own for Iola-Scandinavia.
