Johnston, Amy

Posted

Amy Lee (DeGodt) Johnston, age 55, passed away on May 8, 2024, at her home in Willis, Texas.

She was born in Waupaca, WI, on May 4, 1969, daughter to Dennis and Carol DeGodt. Amy attended schools in Stevens Point, and graduated from SPASH in 1987. After graduation, Amy joined the US Navy, where she worked as an airplane mechanic. This is where she met her husband of many years, Bruce Johnston. Together, they raised Holly, then divorced after their move to Texas.

While serving her country, Amy lived in Orlando, Jacksonville, and Pensacola, Florida; California, Maryland; Catania, Sicily; and LeMoore, California. They later moved to her happy place, Waupaca, WI, which is where they raised her daughter, Holly. Amy worked as an Registered Nurse at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home at King for many years. After Holly graduated from high school, they moved to Willis, Texas.

On any given day, you might find Amy exploring the great outdoors, tending to her butterfly gardens, walking and playing with her dogs, or shopping; she was highly skilled at finding awesome deals in the clearance sections at Target. Her happiest days were spent with family and friends on Columbia Lake, especially at the swim dock in Camp Cleghorn. As much as Amy loved the lakes, she refused to swim in them for fear being attacked by fish.

Survivors include her daughter, Holly (Grayson) Jacks; mother, Carol (Gerald) Jordan; father, Dennis DeGodt; sister, Michelle DeGodt; brother, Mark Pugmire; her “other mother,” Trudy Pankow; aunt and uncle, Gary and Cheryl Prell; niece Savana, and nephews, Ryne and Finn. As a kid, Amy spent many special lake days with her surviving cousins: Corey Prell, Shawn (Amber) Prell, Scott (Kerri) Pankow, Jeff (Beth) Pankow, Curt (April) Pankow, Jason (Wendy) DeGodt, and Jesse DeGodt. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Norm and Betty Prell; grandmother, Adeline Ayres; step-mother, Maxine Kienert; and cousin, Tracy DeGodt.

Friends and family are invited to Amy’s Celebration of Life at the Camp Cleghorn Hall on the Waupaca Chain O’Lakes, on August 25, 2024, from noon to 4pm. Memorials to Holly Jacks (2750 Millerville Rd, Apt 9305, Baton Rouge, LA 70816) are appreciated.

Amy was cremated by McNutt Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas.
