The Lady Wolves basketball team finished the Almond-Bancroft Holiday Tournament as consolation winners.
The Lady Wolves were crushed by Stratford 60-24 on Thursday, Dec. 27, but bounced back on Friday, Dec. 28 to defeat Wisconsin Valley Lutheran 41-16.
Manawa 41, Wisconsin Valley Lutheran 16
Friday afternoon a shorthanded Lady Wolves squad cut down on the turnovers and forced the Lutheran Wolves into 28 turnovers. Manawa led from start to finish.
With only eight players dressed, senior Molly Loughrin took advantage of the added playing time and scored the first four points of the game as Manawa opened the game with 8-0 run.
Senior Katelyn Langman scored on three straight possessions to close out the first half and a 21-9 halftime lead.
The Lutheran Wolves opened the second half with full court pressure and forced Manawa into nine turnovers, but couldn't get any closer than 11 points during the quarter.
Loughrin finished the final eight minutes with six points as the Lady Wolves allowed the Lutheran Wolves only two points during the quarter and captured their second win of the season.
Loughrin finished the game with a career high 13 points and Langman added nine.
Stratford 60, Manawa 24
The Lady Tigers forced Manawa into 43 turnovers as they used a variety of defenses to forces 21 first half turnovers.
Junior Baylee Gorges basket gave Manawa its only lead at 4-3 with 5:54 to play in the opening quarter. From there the Tigers reeled off 10 unanswered points and a 13-4 lead. They never looked back from there. Their lead grew to 20 by halftime at 34-14.
Any hope of making a comeback quickly went out the window as Manawa committed 13 third quarter turnovers and managed only two points.
