Lakemen rained out

Posted
Despite Sunday being sunny and hot for most of the day, the Waupaca Lakemen game at New London had to be postponed due to wet grounds from Saturday rains.

Some teams got their games played as scheduled (see the BABA highlights section on page 6b). The Lakemen/Merchant game was rescheduled for 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at Hatten Stadium. Results of that game will appear in next week's County Post West.

Waupaca as well as all BABA teams should have their full complement of players available, as all colleges have now completed semester finals and students have returned home for the summer. The South-Central Division has had very competitive games each weekend. With only three weekends of league games played, one team remains undefeated. Upcoming weekend games include Lanark traveling to Weymont for a 7:30 p.m. game Friday, May 27. The other three games are 1:30 p.m. starts Sunday, May 29. They include Rosholt at Plover, Scandinavia at New London and Waupaca at Manawa.

The Lakemen will then begin their nonconference weeknight games at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 3, as the Hatley Braves return to Lakemen Field for their second visit in this young season for a seven-inning contest. The Lakemen defeated the Braves 4-3 on a cold Sunday afternoon in late April.

Most Lakemen nonconference games at night are scheduled for only seven innings, as most players on both teams have to work the next day and/or have to get themselves ready for the conference games on Sunday.

If a night game were to go nine innings and be a slow-paced game, the visiting team would probably not get home until near the midnight hour. To help avoid such an event, the Lakemen simply play seven innings. Most fans who come out for those Wednesday or Friday games also seem to appreciate the games usually ending before 9:30 p.m.
