Eugene A. Malliet, 95, passed away on September 10, 2024. He was born on October 10, 1928 in Bear Creek, WI to George and Esther (Surprise) Malliet.
Following graduation from Bear Creek High School in 1948, Gene joined the Army, serving his country with honor and pride in Japan and during the Korean War. On February 16, 1953, Eugene married the love of his life, Marilyn Sandra “Sandy” Quall at St. Mary Catholic Church in Bear Creek; together they raised four children. Gene worked for Miller Electric for 39 years before his well-deserved retirement in1995. He was a proud member of VFW Post 7692 in Freedom, WI, continuing to honor his fellow veterans and support the community. Gene was not only an excellent carpenter, but also an outstanding electrician and mechanic who could fix any vehicle that came his way. He was an avid trout fisherman. His passion for fishing was not just a hobby, but an avenue through which he connected with those he loved.
Eugene is survived by his children Michael (Cynthia) Malliet, Barbara (Michael) Maloney, David (Julie) Malliet and Daniel (Elin) Malliet; grandchildren Jennifer (Jason) Leonard, Nicole Malliet, Carly (Daniel Abrahan-Velesco) Malliet, Scott (Maria) Schreiter, Andy Maloney, Lisa Maloney, Lindsey (special friend Graham Lund) Woerishofer and Kelsie Malliet; great grandchildren Sam, Madelyn, Caitlyn, Mylie, Jacob, Hans and Heidi. He is further survived by his brother Durrell “Butch” Malliet, many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Eugene is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Sandra “Sandy” Malliet; his parents and siblings Gordon, Grace, Lorraine, Julius, Donald, George, Alice, Marlin and Rodger.
A visitation for Eugene will be held on September 21, 2024 at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St. in Appleton, from 9:00 am until time of funeral service at 11:00 am with Deacon Lincoln Wood officiating. Military Honors will follow the service and burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery in Clintonville, WI.
