Manawa girls face Iola-Scandinavia in conference matchup

Manawa Wolves girls took on the Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds on Jan. 27, in a Cenratl Wisconsin Conference-East matchup.

Iola-Scandinavia finished the game shooting 10-of-42 from the floor and was unable to connect from beyond the arc, going 0-for-5 from three-point range. However, aggressive play inside and drawing fouls helped keep the team competitive, as they converted 17-of-27 free throws.

Maya Munoz delivered the strongest offensive performance for the Thunderbirds, scoring 12 points on an efficient four-of-six shooting while pulling down eight rebounds. Her presence in the paint proved valuable on both ends of the floor. Rayanne Clendenning added six points and dished out three assists.

Madelyn Karolus contributed across the stat sheet with four points, eight rebounds, two blocks, as the Thunderbirds, outrebounded their opponent 36–30, including 11 offensive rebounds.

Manawa finished 13-of-55 from the field and 2-of-15 from three-point range as well as connecting on 14-of-20 attempts.

Junior Alayna Seeger led all scorers with 13 points, attacking the basket consistently and converting a perfect six-for-six from the free-throw line. Senior Abby Elmhorst contributed eight assists, four steals, and four rebounds in a team-high 35 minutes.

Defensively, Manawa applied pressure, forcing 29 turnovers and collecting an impressive 21 steals. Senior Rylee Vanden Heuvel led that effort with five steals, while juniors Abby Elmhorst and Alayna Seeger each added four.
Manawa took the lead late in the second half winning over Iola by a score of 42-37.
