Manawa man charged with felony battery

On the afternoon of Sunday, May 29, Waupaca Police Officers Lisa Benitez and Paul Benzschawel responded to an anonymous complaint that loud yelling could be heard from a gray house on Granite Street. No address had been provided, so the officers drove around the area, but did not hear any yelling.

A subsequent phone call provided an address and reported that Morey had been beating a woman.

The woman later told Benitez and Benzschawel that Morey had punched her in the face, threw her on the floor, sat on top of her, pulled her hair and strangled her with his forearm. When she tried to call her mother for help, Morey allegedly grabbed her phone and smashed it.
