William J. ”Bill” Marks, age 72, of Waupaca, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024.

He was under hospice care, at his home in Waupaca due to lung and brain cancer.

He was born on December 16, 1951 in Appleton, WI, the son of the late Leonard and Verna (Wienandt) Marks. He attended Appleton schools until the family moved to a farm and he then graduated from Bonduel High School in 1970. Bill was drafted into the US Army and served in Vietnam as an MP from 1971-1972, when he was honorably discharged.

Bill married Patricia Sasse on June 1, 1974, and would have celebrated 50 years together this year. They enjoyed dancing, going out for dinner and traveling.
Bill spent his working life driving truck for various companies in the Fox Valley. Bill and Pat lived in Menasha until 2014 and then moved to a 5 acre lot in Waupaca. Bill finally had his woods where he could cut, split, chip and burn wood in his wood burner all winter.

Bill is survived by his wife, Pat; his brother, Dan (Carol) Marks, Seymour; three sisters, Nancy Bunnell, Shiocton; Cindy (Steve) Moesch, Bonduel; and Colleen (Dave) Thompson, Green Bay; a brother-in-law, Lloyd Schaumberg, Krakow;. a sister-in-law, Kathy (Frank) Martin, Racine; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Raymond and Angela Sasse; a sister, Ronna Schaumberg and two brothers-in-law, Bob Bunnell and John Sasse.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 11:00 am at Lewin Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Fremont. Rev. Andy Behrendt will officiate. Visitation will be held at Lewin Funeral Home on Thursday, from 9:30 am until 11:00 am. Burial with full military rites will be in Wolf River Cemetery. Memorial funds have been established for American Cancer Society, Waupaca County Humane Society and Trinity Lutheran Church, Waupaca.

Bill’s family would like to thank ThedaCare at Home hospice, especially Kristi, for the wonderful care and compassion he was given during his short illness. It is greatly appreciated.
