Kane grew up in Philadelphia and is a graduate of Temple University. He has won several national and local journalism awards for his three-times-a-week column, including the National Headliner Award, Sigma Delta Chi Award from the Society of Professional Journalists, and National Association of Black Journalists.
He began his career at the old Milwaukee Journal in 1981 where he worked as general assignment reporter and feature writer. In 1992, Kane was named a John S. Knight Fellow at Stanford University. After completing the graduate program, he returned to the Journal and became a columnist for the paper in 1994. He continued writing his column after the Journal and the Sentinel merged in 1995.
Kane is a former co-host of the public television series "Black Nouveau" and a former journalism lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Marquette University.
Kane will discuss the media and race from his perspective as a journalist.
