Moe, Reedy lead Comets over Irish

The Waupaca Comet baseball team picked opened Eastern Valley Conference play Monday, April 18, at Freedom and picked up its first win of the year, a 4-3 decision over the Irish.



The Comets also fell to Stevens Point 7-3 Thursday, April 14.



Waupaca 4, Freedom 3



FREEDOM - Kevin Moe held the Irish to one hit over five innings to earn the win on the mound.



Freedom opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but the Comets responded with two runs in the second and two more in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead.



The Irish scored twice in the bottom of the seventh on Cole Krueger's double to complete the scoring.



Jake Reedy had a pair of doubles and drove in a pair of runs for the Comets. Joe Nelson picked up the save by pitching the final two innings.



Stevens Point 7, Waupaca 3



PLOVER - A 5-0 deficit was too much for the Comets to overcome.



Stevens Point scored four times in the second inning in a 7-3 nonconference win over the Comets Thursday, April 14, in Plover.



The Panthers added a run in the fourth before Waupaca got on the board with a run in the top of the fifth. The Panthers added to their lead with two more runs in the fifth.



Waupaca cut the deficit to four runs on run-scoring singles from Reedy and Beau Ash in the seventh, but couldn't get any closer.



Garrett Karnowski picked up the win, while Cody Zick took the loss.



Clay Giese drove in four runs for the Panthers and had a bases-loaded triple in the second inning.
