Morey, Helen Louise

Helen Louise (Pfeiffer) Morey, age 98, passed peacefully into the care of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,

on the morning of September 19, 2023 at Living Oaks Assisted Living in Iola, WI.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John Pfeiffer and Lydia (Raddatz) Pfeiffer, as well as her husband, Phillip James Morey. Helen is also preceded in death by her siblings, Marie, Raymond, Robert, and Elizabeth. Her brother, Carl Pfeiffer, now the only living sibling left of the Pfeiffer children. She is also preceded in death by granddaughter, Christine Johnson. May they all rest in the peace of our Lord. Helen was born on May 17, 1925 in Oshkosh, WI. After graduating from high school, she attended secretarial school in Oshkosh, WI. and was employed as a secretary. On December 7, 1944 Helen married Phillip James Morey in Oshkosh, WI. They then moved to a farmstead in the township of Farmington, in Waupaca County, WI., where they took up dairy farming and gardening. While her children were attending grade school, Helen prepared and served lunch at Barton School. She is survived by her children; Betty (Gary) Johnson, William (Marcie) Morey, Russell (Lynn) Morey, Linda (James Kubinek) Morey, and Thomas (Cheryl) Morey, as well as 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was active in the 4-H Club, the Home-makers group, and volunteered in election polling for many years. As a young student, Helen learned how to play the violin. She also took piano lessons, which became an important part of her life. Helen attended church at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca, WI. When her children were in high school, she was offered a chance to play the organ in church. She had never played a big pipe organ and was anxious to go to the church to practice- However, Helen didn’t know that they were asking her to be the organist for the church. She accepted the position, and purchased an organ so she could practice at home. Helen’s real love of music is church music. She took an intensive Bible class for 2 years and taught for six. From that experience, she set some of the Bible stories to music. Helen’s choir director liked to perform special music cantatas for the church. Helen, with the talent she possessed, wrote several cantatas herself, several of which she performed at Trinity Lutheran Church. She started composing in 1983. Her first cantata, “The Kingdom of God” was the favorite. Helen also wrote choir anthems from hymns. She officially retired as organist in 1997, serving for well over 30 years, but continued as a substitute organist until 2010. She also played the piano for funerals at Holly Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday September 23, 2023 at 11 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca, WI, the service will be live streamed at https://youtu.be/fWDzHxdxvs0. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Reverend Andy Behrendt and Reverend Gene Gauerke will officiate. A visitation will be held on Friday September 22, 2023 from 4 P.M. until 7 P.M. at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, WI, and again on Saturday at the church from 10 A.M. until the time of the service at 11 A.M.
