New London teen returns to court

Weston J. Koehler, 18, New London, was charged Sept. 28 with felony bail jumping and disorderly conduct.

On Sept. 25, police were called to New London High School. There they met with Koehler and with assistant principal Scott Eggart.

Eggart told police that Koehler had become disruptive in the classroom after being asked to come to the school office. Koehler allegedly threw papers across the room, knocked over chairs and kicked a trash can on his way to the office. Police then took Koehler into custody.

Koehler appeared in circuit court on July 27 when he was charged with the felony offenses of sexual assault of a child and child enticement, as well as three misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree sexual assault.

On Sept. 22, Koehler entered pleas of no contest to the three misdemeanor charges. The child enticement charge was dismissed but read into the court record. The district attorney's office agreed to defer prosecution on the felony sexual assault charge.

Judge John Hoffmann placed Koehler on three years' probation with the conditions that he not commit any crimes, spend 10 days in jail, perform 120 hours of community service, and write a letter of apology to the 13-year-old victim.

Koehler is scheduled to appear in court on the disorderly conduct and bail jumping charges on Oct. 26.
